Remember These Stores That Were Once in The Prien Lake Mall In Lake Charles?

If you are from Lake Charles or Southwest Louisiana, chances are you have been inside the Prien Lake Mall for a time or two. We can remember when the mall was just a big L-shape at one time. For you younger folks, the mall wasn't as big as it is now.

The addition of the food court and the West side of the mall wasn't there in the 1980s and 90s. It was just a big L-shaped building that housed a bunch of stores that weren't even there anymore. Of all the stores that are presently in the mall, J.C. Penny's is the only store that has stood the test of time in the mall.

Bach in the 1980s and 90s, there were a few department stores, an arcade, for vendors in the center of the mall, and one pizzeria.  So do you remember some of these stores that once were in the Prien Lake Mall?  Let's go down memory lane and find out.

Stores that once were inside the Prien Lake Mall in Lake Charles, Louisiana 

Montgomery Ward -- It once was where Kohl sits now

The Orange Bowl -- was a pizzeria which was located right outside of Montgomery Wards

Aladdin's Castle --an arcade that was right next to the Orange Bowl pizzeria where people used quarters to play the games.

Musicland -- It was a a music store where you could buy vinyl records, cassette tapes, and then in the early 90s, CDs.  It was located where The Shoe Department now is.

KB Toys-- It was a toy store which was located a couple of doors down from Musicland. Fun fact, I worked there in high school.

The White House -- this store is like what a Dillard is now. It sold Tommy Hilfiger, Polo, and other designer clothes and cologne. The White House was located where Cinemark Movie Theater is now.

Radio Shack -- this was a store where you could get wires, plugs, and other technology for your home stereo systems, car audio, and more. It was located right next to the White House.

K&B Drug Store -- This was the Walgreens or CVS of its time. The color scheme for the store was purple and White and it was located by the entrance on the East side of the mall.

Suncoast -- It was a store where you could buy VHS tapes of your favorite movies to play at home on your VCR (Video Cassette Recorder).  It was located in the same part of the mall as the hallway leading you to J.C. Penney.

Morrow's Nut House -- It was a decent-sized cart that sat in the middle of the walkway of the mall that sold goodies like gummy bears, candy, gummi coke bottles, and assorted nuts like cashews, almonds, and more.

You may also remember that the mall had a huge fountain which was located in the center of the mall where the L-shaped building met.
