🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Listen up Southwest Louisiana, new laws to make sure the kiddos are safe will go into effect across the state. After reading these it really makes me question my parents' decisions to let me ride in the back of the truck all those times. Man, the 80s were great. But protecting our little ones now a days has become an even more important responsibility than in the past, and we need to change our ways every time we hit the highway. These new rules follow safety standards set by the American Academy of Pediatrics. These new laws go into effect on August 1st, 2025.

What are the New Car Seat Laws in Louisiana?

  • Kids under 2 must ride in a rear-facing car seat.
  • Kids ages 4 to 9 must ride in a booster seat with a lap and shoulder seat belt.
  • Kids ages 9 to 12 can sit in the car without a booster seat only if:
  • Their knees bend over the edge of the seat,
  • Their back is flat against the seat,
  • And the seat belt lays across their chest (not their neck).
  • All kids under 13 must ride in the back seat when one is available.
