McVey’s Seafood Announces First-Ever Gumbo Cook-Off in Lake Charles
Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - Crawfish may have its season, but gumbo is ready to take center stage when the temperatures start dropping this Fall.
The folks at McVey's Seafood are taking their love of Louisiana cooking in a new direction with their first-ever Gumbo Cook-Off, coming to Lake Charles on Saturday, October 24, 2026. They posted all the details on McVey Seafood's Facebook event page.
Anyone familiar with McVey's knows the crowds their annual crawfish boil-off can attract, with thousands showing up to watch cooking teams battle for bragging rights and the coveted championship trophy. Now, they're bringing that same competitive spirit to the fall with a steaming pot of gumbo as the star.

The competition will be held at Mary's Lounge, 4017 E. Broad St. in Lake Charles, and organizers promise that this will be a Cajun-style showdown you're not going to want to miss.
There will be two Gumbo Champions, with competitors divided into two categories. The Seafood Gumbo division allows seafood and only seafood for the meat.
1st Annual McVey Seafood Gumbo Cook-off Categories
- Chef's Choice Gumbo, where cooks can get creative, but there's one major rule: no seafood allowed.
- Potato Salad Showdown - One Potato Salad Champion will be chosen from EACH gumbo category
- People's Choice
After it is all said and done, there will be two Gumbo Champions, two Potato Salad Champions, and one People’s Choice Winner.
