Last year, it was a dream season for the McNeese Cowgirls softball team. The team tore up the competition and went 40-21 on the season. More impressive is that the girls went 15-3 in Southland Conference play.

They entered the Southland Conference Tournament and swept the tournament going 3-0 and winning the 2022 Southland conference softball championship. With their win in the conference tournament, the Cowgirls got an automatic bid into the NCAA regional tournament to play for a national championship.

The cowgirls need to win the regional to advance and they were off to a great start by beating Notre Dame 11-+1 in just 5 innings. The cowgirls ultimately went 2-2 in the regional and failed to advance to end their season.

But what a season it was. Now it's time for the 2023 season to begin in about two weeks and the votes are out.
