Massive Brawl Breaks Out During Texas Basketball Game
You hate to see this... A major brawl broke out after Texas A&M-Commerce's 76-72 victory over Incarnate Word on Monday Night in Southland Conference Play when the teams began shaking hands. We have the video below for you to see the entire sequence...
We don't know what prompted the incident in the handshake line, but it involved several players from both teams throwing fists at each other. Coaches, players, and school officials from both teams attempted to separate the fighting players, but the fight lasted more than a minute as members of the two programs scuffled across the court.
As the fight went on, there were numerous pileups on the floor. According to the ESPN+ broadcast analysts, a "young girl" in the crowd was injured as a result of the fight, and one of the team's managers had "blood on his face," though officials and schools did not provide any immediate information on casualties.
The two squads are both fighting near the bottom of the Southland Conference in basketball this season with both teams having disappointing seasons. We are not sure what prompted the altercation, but you will see in the video, that it did not end pretty and we can expect multiple suspensions to come down from Commissioner Chris Grant and the Southland Conference.
Multiple statements were issued on behalf of the Incarnate Word, Texas A&M Commerce, and the Southland Conference. Here are the statements from each.
