Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - If you've been wondering why some offices and services may be unavailable on June 19th, there's a good reason. Juneteenth is just around the corner, and with the federal holiday being observed on Thursday, June 19, 2026, several government offices, financial institutions, and public services will be affected.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, commemorating the day enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom following the Civil War. Since then, the holiday has been recognized nationwide, with many government agencies and businesses observing the day each year.

Federal offices will be closed, along with most major banks and financial institutions. The U.S. Postal Service will also suspend regular mail delivery for the holiday, and stock markets will not be trading. Also, you will not have trash pickup in the city of Lake Charles that day.
