Lake Charles Native Named Position Coach At LSU
Looks like the Brian Kelly coaching staff is close to being completed, and the latest staff addition is no stranger to Lake Charles and McNeese.
Slade Nagel has spent the last eight seasons at Tulane University. He is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana. From 2016 until 2022, he coached the Green Wave's tight ends. This past season, he was elevated to the position of assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach.
When Willie Fritz was hired by Houston to become the head coach, he took over as head coach for Tulane's December Bowl Game. Nagel also has experience with special teams; from 2012 to 2015, he coached running backs and special teams at McNeese. In 2009, he worked as an administrative assistant with the LSU special teams.
During his high school years, Nagel excelled as an all-state quarterback at Barbe in Lake Charles. He committed to Clemson but ultimately returned to his hometown to complete his collegiate education at McNeese.
As the starting quarterback for the Cowboys during his collegiate career, Nagle had a 19-8 win-loss record. With 4,977 yards of total offense, he finished his career as the seventh-ranked player in the nation. With one of the finest career completion percentages in school history (.578), he led the Cowboys to the SLC championship as a quarterback in his final season, completing 113 of 198 throws for 1,279 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Brian Kelly is reportedly selecting Slade Nagel to be LSU's new tight ends coach, according to several sources.
As co-offensive coordinators, Joe Sloan and Cortez Hankton will call plays. Sloan is the quarterbacks coach. The Tigers are looking to replace a ton of offensive production while losing Heisman Trophy Winner Jayden Daniels and Wide Reciever Malik Nabers.
