Here’s the scoop: a company called Onyx Partners, based in Boston, just bought 119 JCPenney store locations across 35 states for a whopping $947 million. Even though the stores were sold, JCPenney will remain in those locations. They’re just going to be paying rent to the new owners now.

It isn't bad news, though; it sounds as if this is a part of a bigger plan to help the company bounce back after filing for bankruptcy a few years ago. In 2020, JCPenney faced significant financial challenges and was forced to close over 200 stores. Since then, they’ve been slowly working their way back, and this sale is one more step in that direction.
