Icon of the Seas Announces First Galveston Sailing Date
Galveston, Texas [KNGT-FM] - Cruise lovers along the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast have something exciting to look forward to! Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, is heading to the Port of Galveston, and we now know when its first sailing is scheduled.

The big announcement came in November 2025, but the exact debut date was still unknown. Now, Royal Caribbean has announced that Icon of the Seas is scheduled to begin sailing from Galveston on Sunday, August 22, 2027.

Completed in 2023, the massive ship made its maiden voyage from Miami on January 27, 2024. After several years sailing from Florida, this impressive vessel will soon bring its signature cruise experience to Texas.
As someone who has sailed on Royal Caribbean at least 20 times, I’m personally thrilled to see Icon of the Seas coming to our area. Although I’ve enjoyed many of the cruise line’s ships, I have yet to experience one of its mega ships.

The photo below is from one of my past cruises on the Royal Caribbean's Harmony Of The Seas. This is the Rising Tide Bar, which moves up and down four floors and is located in the promenade area on the ship.

One of my favorite things about Royal Caribbean is the spacious Royal Promenade, which feels more like a shopping mall than a cruise ship. Add in spectacular theaters featuring Broadway-style shows, ice-skating rinks, exciting boardwalk attractions, and specialty restaurants, and it’s easy to see why these ships offer such an unforgettable vacation experience.
