Multi-Vehicle Crash Sends Truck Off I-10 Bridge in Lake Charles
Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - For the second time in the last three weeks, there has been a major incident atop the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles. This crash sent a truck over the side of the bridge.
According to a report from KPLC, Police say the crash happened around 6:17 a.m. A car hit the barrier in the eastbound lanes, which caused a chain reaction crash involving at least four vehicles.
While police were working on that crash, a bucket truck tried to avoid debris in the road. The truck swerved, crossed into the westbound lanes, and went over the side of the bridge. Police say the truck went over near the bottom of the bridge. The driver was not hurt.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation says the right lane of I-10 Westbound on the Calcasieu River Bridge is closed for now so crews can check for damage and make repairs. They will give an update when the lane reopens.
The report from KPLC says the crash is still under investigation.
