Here’s The #1 Drunkest City In Louisiana For 2023
One thing about Louisiana folks, we love to drink. I mean, there have been MANY instances where people from Louisiana go out-of-state and drink a bar, restaurant, or stadium out of alcohol. Well, our friends over at RoadSnacks crunched some numbers and found out what city in Louisiana is the DRUNKEST!
There have been a few instances where a Louisiana Football team has gone out of state and drank or completely drank an establishment out of alcohol. During LSU's famous run to a National Championship in 2019, the Tigers were on a trip to Vanderbilt to play the Commodores when Tiger faithful drank a Nashville bar COMPLETELY out of alcohol at NINE IN THE MORNING.
Maybe think back to this past summer when the LSU Tigers went to the College World Series in Omaha and the Tiger faithful SHATTERED the record for Jell-O shots during the Rocco's Jell-O Shot Challenge.
Needless to say, the fine folk of Louisiana can drink. But, which city drinks the most?
According to a 2023 study by the website RoadSnacks, Lafayette, Louisiana, is the drunkest city in Louisiana. Not only is Lafayette the drunkest city in Louisiana, but they are also the drunkest in the Country!
Roadsnacks.com analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to identify the metropolitan areas with "the highest rates of binge and excessive drinking." Lafayette ranked first in the state with 24.4% of adults reporting that they either binge drink or drink heavily on a regular basis.
Our friends over at Wags & Woofs gave us a list of some of the Factors as to why Lafayette is the drunkest in the State and Country...
- Vibrant Nightlife Scene
- Lafayette is celebrated for its vibrant nightlife scene, featuring a multitude of bars, clubs, and restaurants that cater to the city’s revelers. This exuberant nightlife culture makes it easier for individuals to indulge in excessive alcohol consumption, particularly on weekends and holidays.
- Large Student Population
- Lafayette is home to several colleges and universities, with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette being a prominent institution. College students have been statistically identified as more likely to engage in binge drinking compared to adults in other age groups. As per the 2022 National College Health Assessment, a notable 26.8% of college students reported recent binge drinking.
- Cultural Norms
- The broader cultural context within Louisiana, renowned for its rich history of Mardi Gras and other festivals that celebrate alcohol, may contribute to the city’s high ranking on the list of drunkest cities. These cultural festivities foster a milieu where drinking is perceived as a normal and socially acceptable aspect of life.
- Access To Alcohol
- Lafayette boasts a relatively high concentration of bars and restaurants, enhancing the accessibility of alcohol for its residents. A 2023 study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) revealed that individuals living in areas with an abundance of alcohol outlets are more likely to partake in alcohol consumption.
