Now that we are in a new year, Mardi Gras is in full swing. The annual 12th night celebration to kick off the 2024 Mardi Gras season took place last Saturday night at the Lake Charles Event Center. The celebration ushers in the new Mardi Gras season and some Krewe's in Southwest Louisiana also held their Mardi Gras Balls over the weekend.

That seems fast right? Well, we have to realize that Mardi Gras Day this year is coming fast. Mardi Gras 2024 is on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 which is causing folks in Mardi Gras Krewes to get their stuff in gear and have their balls so early this year.

There are more than 60 private krewes in Southwest Louisiana and getting all your Mardi Gras Balls in on time is a challenge and also finding locations to have them with a limited number of weeks to squeeze them in.

The city of Lake Charles is celebrating Mardi Gras as well by spotlighting the more than 60 Krewe's in the area on one of the most popular streets in Lake Charles. The street is lined with flags hanging from light poles featuring the names of every Mardi Krewe in Southwest Louisiana.

The majority of the flags are located in downtown Lake Charles on Ryan Street starting on the corner of Ryan and Clarence Streets and running down Ryan Street to Division Street. Some flags line the Lakeshore Drive area with Mardi Gras-type messages.

Have you seen them? Go take a little drive and check them out. if you are in a Krewe, it would be fun to see where your Krewe's flag is located.
