Call For Service: Become a Louisiana State Trooper in 2027

Louisiana [KNGT-FM] - If you've been considering a career in law enforcement, now is the time to act. The Louisiana State Police has officially opened the application period for its 110th Cadet Class, allowing qualified candidates to join one of the state's premier law enforcement agencies.

I myself was in law enforcement for over 11 years with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, and it was one of the most rewarding times in my life. It was an honor to serve the community that I grew up in and protect the great citizens of Southwest Louisiana.

If you are thinking of joining the force, you need to hurry. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, August 11, with the next academy scheduled to begin January 3, 2027.

It is not easy, however. The Louisiana State Police Academy is an intensive 24-week training program that is designed to prepare future troopers with the skills and knowledge needed to serve communities across Louisiana.

Cadets receive instruction that extends well beyond Louisiana's basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

Requirements to be eligible for the Louisiana State Police Academy

• Applicants must be at least 21 years old
• Two years as a POST Level 1 certified peace officer
• At least 60 college semester hours from an accredited institution
• A combination of higher education and qualifying law enforcement experience
• Or three years of continuous active-duty military service.

To apply, you must download the required forms from the Louisiana State Police website and must submit completed applications electronically through the Louisiana State Police Commission. Remember, the deadline is August 11, 2026.
