Inmate at Oakdale Federal Prison Dies from Coronavirus
A press release on Saturday confirmed an inmate died of complications brought on by the coronavirus at the Oakdale Federal Correctional Institution. That inmate was identified as 49-year-old Patrick Jones. Jones was in the facility serving time on drug charges from 2017.
According to the release by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Prisons Mr. Jones suffered from long term pre-existing medical conditions. Jones was tested for coronavirus on Friday and that test was confirmed. Mr. Jones passed away on Saturday.
According to the Bureau of Prisons website, there are currently 19 inmates in federal custody that have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Five of those inmates are housed in the Oakdale facility.
