If you're wondering where all your money keeps going, a new study from BankRate.com might have the answer.

It focused on how much the average American is spending on two things: Going out to eat and grabbing drinks like coffee. Spoiler alert: We're spending a lot.

The study found that the average person goes out to eat or gets take out 2.4 times a week, and spends an average of $19.58 each time. That adds up to about 125 times a year, and costs a total of $2,443.

Here's the Top 5 Restaurants in SWLA I'm eating at 2.4 times a week:

  1. Casa Mañana
  2. Buffalo Wild Wings
  3. McDonald's
  4. Southern Spice
  5. Olive Garden

And we buy drinks like coffee or smoothies 2.5 times a week, at an average of $3.72 cents each time. That adds up to 130 times a year, and costs us $484.

I got to be honest with you, there's no way I'm paying $3.72 for a cup of coffee (unless it's at Buc-ee's).  So I'm personally saving $484 dollars a year, give or take!

So doing a little arithmetic, the average person is spending $2,927 a year at restaurants and coffee shops. Which means in the last five years, you've dropped $14,635.

I'm sure you're imagining what you could've done with that money, like a down payment on a loaded black on black Ford Raptor F-150...oh sorry, that was mine.
