The Gamblers battled the Michigan Panthers for their first game and won 17-12. Houston came out the gate quick with a huge defensive score but both teams had a difficult time moving the ball offensively all game long.

The play of the game happened with 14:44 left in the second quarter when Michigan QB Shea Patterson was ran down from behind and had the ball stripped while scrambling out of the pocket. Gamblers' linebacker #5 Reggie Northrup, who played football in college at Florida State, scooped up the loose ball and raced down the sideline for pay dirt.

Gambler's QB Clayton Thorson struggled for most of the game. However, he did throw the best touchdown pass of the weekend in my opinion. Thorson had immediate pressure after hiking the ball, retreating he threw on his back foot and was still able to throw a perfect touchdown pass over the heads of two leaping Panther defenders to former Mississippi State wide receiver Isiah Zuber in the corner of the endzone.
