Immediate Actions When A Tornado Is Coming
Seek Shelter Immediately
Best option: A basement or storm cellar.
No basement? Go to an interior room on the lowest floor (closet, bathroom, hallway) away from windows.
Mobile home? Leave immediately and go to a sturdy building or designated storm shelter.
Protect Yourself
Cover your head and neck with a sturdy object (helmet, mattress, thick blankets).
Get under something heavy like a table to shield from falling debris.
Avoid Windows and Doors
Stay away from glass to avoid flying debris injuries.
If Outside and No Shelter is Available
Get into a low-lying ditch and cover your head.
Do NOT take shelter under bridges or overpasses (strong winds increase under them).
