As we move into the new year, COVID-19 is coming with us, unfortunately. The good news is that if we all work together, it won't be around much longer. The coronavirus vaccine is now available for our community's most vulnerable, the elderly, through SWLA. For current Louisiana stats, click here.

Those eligible to take the vaccine are Louisiana first responders, medical/frontline workers and persons with high risks or over the age of 70. SWLA residents can contact their healthcare providers or make an appoint with their pharmacies. For more details on what pharmacies are administering the COVID-19 vaccine, click here.

We need to make sure we practice CDC protocols to prevent infection, including social distancing (6 feet or more), washing our hands frequently with soap and water, using hand sanitizer when out and about, and most of all, wearing a mask while in public. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms like headache, fatigue, or loss of taste or smell, go get tested. If you've been exposed or simply want peace of mind and want to get tested for the virus, free drive-thru testing is available. Pre-registration is not required, but recommended and you can do so here.

Free COVID testing is available for persons three or older at the Lake Charles Civic Center (900 Lakeshore Drive). Drive-thru testing is available Monday-Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
