The following post contains SPOILERS for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiere.

When WandaVision started, it looked like a 1950s sitcom with a couple superheroes in the middle of it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is different. It looks like a Marvel show through and through, with two superheroes — Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes — getting dragged into a mission involving a new group of terrorists called the Flag-Smashers. Then there’s the matter of Captain America’s old shield — and the new Captain America the government finds to wield it.

Almost all of these threads are based on specific storylines from Marvel Comics, most published in the 1980s. (Rest in peace, Mark Gruenwald.) On top of them, there are even more references and homages to Marvel and Marvel Cinematic Universe history littered throughout the premiere episode’s 47 minutes.
