Extremely Cold Weather Heading To South Texas Later This Week

(Houston, Texas): Later this week, South Texas will experience freezing temperatures due to a Canadian cold front.  We have all the details.

Lows in the 30s are predicted by meteorologists, with wind chills in the teens or less.

Gulf weather expert Meteorologist Zack Fradella says South Texas will see another round of "pipe bursting numbers". A hard freeze is on the way.

In fact, they are calling this the "Barney Blast" cold front because of how it makes the map of the USA look:

South Texas Five Day Forecast:

• Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 53. East wind 5 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Patchy fog between 9am and noon. High near 65. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Tuesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a slight chance of showers. Low around 42. East wind 10 to 15 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Wednesday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Breezy, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.
• Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.
• Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 41.
• Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 39.
