The annual Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Walk will take place October 15th at 8:30am at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Registration begins at 7:00am, followed by a ceremony at 8:00 and the walk at 8:30.

Ethel Precht and her mother are breast cancer survivors. Ethel, like many of us, has also lost family and friends to this disease. She also understands all too well the financial strain receiving the life saving treatment can put on a person and their family.

Even with insurance, cancer treatment can be very expensive, which is why Mrs. Precht wanted to do something for women here in SWLA who don't have the financial resources or family support to help them get through. Realizing there was a need for an assistance program that could help local woman get these services, Mrs. Precht launched the Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Walk in 2004. The non-profit organization uses money from the annual walk to provide the much needed services for breast cancer patients and survivors living in Cameron or Calcasieu parish.

In 2004, with the help of family and friends, the first Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Walk took place, with hundreds turning out for the event. Today, thousands participate, making this walk the largest gathering for a non-profit organization in Lake Charles.

If you need someone to talk to who understands what you're going through, the Ethel Precht Foundation also has a monthly support group for breast cancer survivors. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome. If you have questions about the group, contact them at supportgroup@ethelbreastcancerwalk.org. The support group meets the third Thursday of every month, and strongly encourages all breast cancer survivors to attend, along with their family and friends.

Come out and walk or run in memory of loved ones you've lost, survivors you know, or just to help a wonderful cause. The Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Walk will take place October 15th at 8:30 am at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

See you there!
