So if you know me, you know that I am kind of a radio nerd. We are taking you back in time featuring some of the old radio stations that were in Lake Charles back in the day.

The first one is KEZM radio 1310 AM in Sulphur Louisiana. We are going back to 1976 when KEZM was a Country station. Recently, KEZM owned by Bruce Merchant was on the air as a sports station until hurricane Laura took it off the air for good.  Check out their old jingles.

Now let's go back in time to 1990 when 99.5 was called LA99. I worked there at that station in 1990. The format then was Adult Contemporary.  They played the best mix of the '60s, '70s, and '80s in 1990. It is now what you know as our station, Gator 99.5.

The station featured Don Rivers and Tom Hoefer in the mornings, Bruce Merchant overnights, and I did the evening show from 7:00 pm to Midnight under the one and only radio name I ever had, David Michaels.  Check this out.

Let's go back to 1976 again when KLOU 1580 AM was on the air. That station features radio legends like Ron Riley, Gary Shannon, John Bridges, Bruce Merchant, and Rob Robin. We found an aircheck from when Rob Robin, who everyone knows as the legendary weatherman in Lake Charles, was also a disc jockey.  Check this out.

And finally, let's head back over to Sulphur, Louisiana to the old Q101. This was a country station in Lake Charles and had the who's who of radio legends on the air during its day. Bruce Merchant, Todd Stone, John Bridges, Boomer, Dale Mann, Aaron Ladd, Dave Soileau, and more were all on that station. Q101 was known as The Country Boss.

We found an aircheck from 1985 when Lori A Cooke was on the air. Take a listen and hear the music they played back then. It's now known as classic country.
