Following their bye week, the McNeese Cowboys get back to the field Saturday evening in San Antonio as they face the University of Incarnate Word. Kickoff is at 6:05pm. The Pokes are 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Southland Conference. UIW is 3-3 and a surprising 3-1 in the SLC. The Cardinals lost in Beaumont last Saturday. With the scored tied at 21, UIW lined up for a possible game-winning field goal. The kick was blocked and returned for a touchdown giving Lamar a 27-21 win. Despite not playing last weekend, the Cowboys moved up to 6 in both FCS polls.

For the second straight game, McNeese will be facing the number 1 offense in the conference. UIW averages 491 yards and 32 points per game. But the Cardinals also give up 519 yards and 37 points per game. QB Jon Copeland leads the SLC with 1844 yards passing on 125 completions. RB Ra'Quanne has rushed for 675 yards on 84 attempts, averaging 112 yards per game.

For the Cowboys, it continues to be the defense that leads the way. McNeese has the best defense in the SLC giving up just 19 points a game. B. J. Blunt has 7 QB sacks ranking him tops in the conference and 5th in the FCS. The Pokes are 2nd in the SLC with 22 total QB sacks. QB James Tabery leads the conference in completion percentage at 66%. He has completed 95 passes on 144 attempts.

McNeese leads the series 4-0, winning last year 55-7. In that game, the defense returned 4 interceptions for touchdowns. The Cowboys are 2-0 in San Antonio.
