For over 56 minutes, the McNeese Cowboys held down the Alcorn offense in a 17-14 victory on Saturday evening in Cowboy stadium. McNeese improved to 2-1 on the season. It was the final non-conference game for McNeese. The Pokes begin conference play next week in Abilene.

McNeese jumped out to a 17-0 lead halfway through the second quarter, thanks to a pair of Cody Orgeron touchdown passes. The first was a 19 yarder to Cyron Sutton in the first quarter, and the second went to Trevor Begue from 13 yards out. Noah Anderson added a 37-yard field goal with just over eight minutes left in the first half.

The second half was dominated by the defense for both teams till late in the fourth when the Braves scored twice in the last four minutes on a pair of touchdown passes by backup quarterback Felix Harper. The Cowboys recovered an onside kick with one minute left to seal the victory. McNeese outgained the Braves 324 to 318.

Orgeron finished 19 of 29 for 191 yards a two touchdowns. J'Cobi Skinner led the team in rushing with 52 yards on 14 carries. Begue caught eight passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Javon Burriss led the way with 12 tackles and Darion Dunn had a pair of interceptions.

Conference play begins for the Cowboys next Saturday on the road against Abilene Christian. Kickoff is at 6:00pm.
