Even if you're feeling very nervous about the novel coronavirus, and its spread, it's still a really good idea to just keep washing your hands. That's your first defense, and always a good choice when trying to stem any spread of germs.

Consumer Reports is giving us a list of common household products that can destroy the novel coronavirus, so we are definitely going to pass this along. The list is below. And according to the Environmental Protection Agency, 'coronaviruses are some of the easiest types of viruses to kill with the appropriate product'. They are recommending that you clean areas that are frequently touched at least three times a day.

  • Soap and Water
  • Bleach. 'The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a diluted bleach solution (⅓ cup bleach per 1 gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per 1 quart of water) for virus disinfection'
  • Isopropyl Alcohol. Use the ones with at least 70% alcohol to fight coronavirus
  • Hydrogen Peroxide. Use the ones with at least 3%, which is usually the household kind

Here is also a list of household items that won't destroy the coronavirus:

  • Homemade hand sanitizer
  • Vodka
  • Distilled white vinegar
