Members of the USCG Heartland pulled three Louisiana men from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and saved them from what most would deem a certain death.

The Coast Guard took to social media to tell of the horrifying account of three Louisiana men who had been in the water around 24 hours and were literally fighting off sharks when their heroes came to their rescue.

The Coast Guard reports that this past Sunday, October 9, after receiving a call from a family member concerned after three boaters had yet to return from their fishing trip Saturday evening, they dispatched several Coast Guard air and boat crews to search an area the size of the state of Rhode Island, and thankfully, their such was successful.

All three boaters were located in the water approximately 25 miles offshore from Empire, Louisiana. Two of the three were witnessed actively engaged in fighting off sharks. Both had injuries to their hands, with the assumption those wounds were inflicted during their fight with the sharks.

Thankfully All The Boaters Were Wearing Their Life Jackets

The Coast Guard accounting of the rescue indicates that all three boaters were wearing lifejackets and one was experiencing signs of hypothermia at the time of the rescue. Their 24-foot center console boat reportedly sank at approximately 10:00 am Saturday morning, stranding them without communication devices.

"We searched an area roughly the size of Rhode Island and are thankful to have found these missing boaters," said Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Keefe, a Sector New Orleans Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator. "If the family member had not notified the Coast Guard, and if these three boaters were not wearing life jackets, this could've been a completely different outcome. We appreciate the assistance of the boating public, who were instrumental in helping identify possible areas where these boaters could have been operating before the vessel became in distress."

We actually have a couple videos of the rescue that show just how incredible this rescue was.

The one below is from WWLTV on YouTube.

And this one is actually from the United States Coast Guard helicopter which was actively engaged in the rescue.
