Coach Gary Goff Says Cowboys Are Ready And Healthy For Tarleton State
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA: McNeese head football coach Gary Goff held a press conference yesterday as the Cowboys prepare for battle this Saturday in Week Zero of the 2024 NCAA season versus the Tarleton State Texans.
The Pokes will be traveling to Stephenville, Texas this weekend to kick off their season against a familiar foe. Last year the Texans bested the Cowboys at The Hole by 18 points.
During the press conference, Coach Goff says that the Texans are returning all 11 starters on offense and they have a very accurate QB, an explosive RB, and an electric WR corps.
He also mentioned that the Cowboys are ready to hit someone else after a very long spring camp and that he feels the team is ready for action.
Goff went on to say he believes the Cowboys are vastly improved (talent wise) on both sides of the ball. He said that with the hurricanes and COVID the team has missed some recruiting class opportunities and that is way they went transfer heavy in this incoming class.
Speaking of transfers, the one that has everyone in Poke Nation salivating at the mouth to see on the field this Saturday is sixth year senior Clifton McDowell. Coach Goff talked glowingly about the Cowboys QB1. He said he can make any throw on the field and make plays with his legs. Goff also called him "very football savvy".
The Cowboys Week Zero game is being played on ESPN2. This is huge for the program. A lot of eyes will be on this game around the nation, and obviously, a ton of possible recruits will be watching as well to see how the new look Cowboys perform.
