Louisiana is a beautiful state known for its music, food, and history. From New Orleans jazz to spicy gumbo, there’s a lot to love. But like every state, not every city is a great place to live. Some places have problems with crime, poverty, or bad schools, which can make life tough for people living there.

In this article, we’ll look at a few cities in Louisiana that might not be the best places to move to and explain why.

1. Monroe

Monroe is a city in northern Louisiana. It has some good things, like pretty parks and a big zoo. But it also has a lot of problems. Monroe struggles with high crime rates, especially for its size. People living there often worry about theft, robberies, and violence. On top of that, many schools in Monroe don’t score very high, and there aren’t as many good jobs as in other parts of the state.

2. Alexandria

Alexandria is located in the middle of Louisiana. While it has a nice river and some fun local events, it also deals with high crime rates and poverty. Many families in Alexandria have a hard time making enough money to live comfortably. The city also ranks low when it comes to public safety, and some neighborhoods aren’t as safe as others. The schools are average, but job opportunities are limited.

3. Opelousas

Opelousas is one of the oldest cities in Louisiana. It has a rich history and plenty of culture. Sadly, it also struggles with problems like crime and unemployment. Opelousas often appears on lists of the most dangerous cities in the state. The poverty rate is very high, which can make it harder for families to find good homes and safe neighborhoods.

4. Bastrop

Bastrop is a small city in the northern part of the state. Like other cities on this list, it has trouble with crime and poverty. Jobs can be hard to find, and many businesses have closed down in recent years. This has made it tough for families and young people to build a future there. The schools aren’t rated very high either.

Why This Matters

When you’re thinking about moving to a new city, it’s important to look at things like crime rates, schools, job opportunities, and quality of life. While every city has its good and bad parts, some places have more problems than others.

The cities on this list may not be the safest or easiest places to live right now. If you’re thinking about moving to Louisiana, it might be better to look at places like Lafayette, Baton Rouge, or even some smaller towns with lower crime rates and better schools.

Final Thoughts

Louisiana is a state full of history, great food, and friendly people. But before you pack your bags, make sure you learn about the city you’re moving to. A little research can help you find a place where you and your family can feel safe, happy, and at home.

What sparked this question in my mind was a video I watched on YouTube from content creator Nick Johnson.  His channel focuses on mostly the run down and poverty-stricken cities around the county.

In this particular video he runs down the top 10 places in Louisiana you should never move to. Some of the cities included are right outside SWLA like Eunice and Crowley.
