Christian Baptist Church Celebrates Jackie Robinson Day
On April 15, we celebrate Jackie Robinson, one of the greatest baseball players of all time. The date of April 15 is recognized as the first day Jackie crossed the color line to play first base with the Brooklyn Dodgers. It is being held at Christian Baptist Church from 4:00pm-6:00pm. While the weather is still a little sketchy, there has not been any word on cancellations at this time.
This will be the first ever Drive-Thru Play Ball event, with free baseballs and bats for all children ages four to 13. Again, this is being held at Christian Baptist Church at 202 North Franklin Street.
If you would like to get your child registered, you can do so online here.
Jackie Robinson did things many didn't think were possible. He literally shut down the stereotype many had of Black men, while taking on the pressures of racism and hatred because of his color. He still prevailed and is remembered as one of the best. If you get the chance, go and watch 42, starring Chadwick Boseman. He personified the role of Jackie all the way down to the walk. It's a great watch for everyone in the family.
