Cajun Signs Of The Zodiac

Quiet and unassuming, the Shrimp tends to keep its head down and go about its business. People born under this sign tend to keep to themselves, preferring alone time to going to parties, where they usually spend the whole evening worrying that they'll find themselves boiled, fried, baked, roasted, or grilled before the night's over.

The Possum is a contradiction. People born under this sign need to feel connected to those around them, so they’re naturally social. However, they’re also extremely anxious around groups of people, so they have a tendency to hide under a blanket on the couch and just watch Netflix instead of going out. Normally fairly easy going, Possums can become either fiercely aggressive when threatened, or lie down and play dead until the scary thing goes away.

Jambalaya is a passionate sign, often erratic and unpredictable. The only thing certain about Jambalaya is that it contains some rice, a bit of meat, and literally anything else. As a result, people born under this sign pride themselves on being unique spirits who defy classification. Highly influenced by their environment, the personality of a Jambalaya can vary greatly from region to region.

Stubborn and persistent, people born under the Mosquito will doggedly pursue their goals, regardless of any barriers placed in their way. Insecticides, citronella candles, and those weird little bracelet things that were all the rage a couple of years ago won’t stop a determined Mosquito from getting at what it needs to survive. People born under this sign are willing to go over, under, around, or just crash right through any obstacle in its path, with little to no concern about how its actions might affect others.

Naturally deceptive, people born under the Ox Tail can often be seen as inconsistent to other signs. However, this is only because the Ox Tail knows what it’s about and doesn’t need anyone else’s approval. In much the same way as Ox Tails don’t come from actual oxen, people born under this sign are happy to appear one way to the outside world, while hiding their true selves from all but their most trusted friends.

Often seen by others as skittish and insecure, the Crawfish is actually one of the most manipulative signs in the entire Cajun Zodiac. Deeply intuitive, the crawfish defies understanding by those who aren’t intimately familiar with it. Outsiders can often be very put off or even repulsed by a Crawfish’s first impression, but all it takes is one real taste of a Crawfish's personality to change their minds. In this regard, the Crawfish is a master of manipulation, finding loyal, lifelong allies whenever it needs them.

The undisputed king of the bayou, people born under the Alligator are natural leaders, as they have a habit of simply eating their competition. Alligators go where they want, do what they want, and they don’t care what anyone thinks about them. Because of their natural arrogance, Alligators are prone to laziness, and will often spend hours lounging in the sun or just lurking in the water with no particular focus. Because of this, the Alligator is highly dependent on other signs to motivate them to action. Usually by biting something.

Usually seen as the purest, most humble sign of the Cajun Zodiac, Rice and Gravy is all business, all the time. People born under this sign prefer function over form, and are likely to ignore things like appearance and presentation. For a Rice and Gravy, it’s all about results. It’s what’s on the inside that counts. How they taste is always more important to a Rice and Gravy than how they look on a plate. As a result, they make excellent companions to virtually every other sign.

Boudin is all about balance. People born under this sign seek harmony in all things, and will always shy away from excess. Use too much rice and not enough sausage, the wrong spices, or even the wrong casing, and you no longer have Boudin. Boudin people are keenly aware of this, and will always go out of their way to ensure that no one area of their lives dominates any other. They make great spouses, as they will always find a balance between their work lives and family time.

While they generally make very loyal friends, the last thing you ever want to do is cross a Cottonmouth, as doing so probably will be the last thing you ever do. Once wronged, people born under the Cottonmouth will scorch the earth in pursuit of revenge. As a result, they often make highly effective leaders and/or tyrants.

Naturally curious, Pelicans are the Cajun Zodiac’s natural oddballs. They make interesting friends in small doses, but people born under this sign have a tendency to promise more than they can deliver, and are often a disappointment to those born under more demanding signs. They love to travel and don’t like being pinned down, which is a personality trait they find hard to reconcile with their equally strong tendency toward hoarding. Pelicans won’t go anywhere without a little something tucked away for later, so while they can appear flighty and fickle to others, they’re usually among the most prepared for any situation life might throw at them.

Gumbo is the most uncompromising, unforgiving, and judgmental of all the signs in the Cajun Zodiac. Every Gumbo is convinced their way is the only way to do something, and anyone who says any different is wrong, wrong, wrong. People born under this sign value tradition and craftsmanship, and make a habit out of alienating as many people as possible through their condescending scorn. Very few people can ever live up to a Gumbo’s exact standards, so people born under this sign are usually highly independent, preferring to rely on their own elevated sense of self-worth rather than depend on the unpredictable (and often disappointing) efforts of others.
