‘American Pie’ Singer Jailed for Domestic Assault
Singer-songwriter Don McLean who is best known for the million selling hit, "American Pie" was arrested and charged for assault early yesterday morning in Camden, Maine.
According to the police in Camden, McLean, 70, was arrested and taken to the jail there in Knox County around mid afternoon yesterday. McLean posted bond just a few hours later and was released. Police charged McLean with the lowest level assault crime. The local police chief, Randy Gagne, did not identify the victim, but it's assumed that it was McLean's wife, Patrisha. The victim of the assault did not require medical attention and later told authorities, "It is not much ado about nothing."

McLean is best known for his hit American Pie, which hit No. 1 in the U.S. in 1972. The song's original manuscript recently fetched $1.2 million at an auction.
