This Lake Charles native was one of the top-ranked quarterbacks coming out of high school in the nation and now he could be the signal caller for the LSU Tigers.

Garrett Nussmeier was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He moved around a lot as a kid because his dad, Doug Nussmeier, is a football coach. Doug is currently the quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Coming out of college at the University of Idaho, he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL Draft.

Garrett graduated from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. He was an Elite 11 finalist and was one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects coming out of high school. He earned four stars from 247 Sports, ESPN, and Rivals. Nussmeier was ranked as the 13th best QB nationally by ESPN as well as being the 9th best prospect overall in Texas and 61st overall player in the country.

He's currently in a QB battle with Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels. Daniels has the experience edge as he started 29 games in his career for the Sun Devils. However, Nussmeier is a young gunslinger with no fear à la Brett Farve. He's got a cannon and he has supreme confidence in his skills. Both quarterbacks are very effective when running the ball but most "insiders" give Daniels the edge here.

Garrett also changed his number from 5 to 13 this season.

I love Nussmeiers swagger.  When he came in for a struggling Max Johnson and started lighting up the Razorback defense it was a thing of beauty. Garrett was redshirted last year, so he's technically still a Freshman with 4 years of eligibility left to play in Baton Rouge.

Coach Kelly hasn't announced who will be the starting quarterback for the Tiger's season opener in New Orleans against the Flordia State Seminoles on Saturday, September 4th.

The Chuck is pulling for you Garrett, we are extremely proud of you and we get giddy every time the commentators mention you're from Lake Charles.
