I was sitting here thinking about the big Easter Egg hunts that used to happen all over America. Why don't we have them anymore? The reason is the same one for not having the Titubic Bath Tub or Bed Pushing Races races at Contraband Days.

I can remember getting hurt playing recreation league baseball. My mom took me to the emergency room, I got my cast, eventually healed and life went on. My son broke his arm while riding a Razor at the Cajun Dome. We took him to get his cast and he healed. Life went on. If everybody did this we would still have those events.

The problem is that some people get hurt and then sue. I understand if something happened that ruined their life and it was because someone was negligent. This is not always the case. A lot of these suits are settled because it is cheaper than fighting them in court.

I can tell you that back in the 70's and 80's we never bought special insurance for events. Now it is the first requirement to plan an event. The insurance companies will sometime just refuse to insure an event or the coverage is so costly that the event become unaffordable. When they do insure an event ... they set very stringent rules for coverage to be available.

A lot of people ask me about events we used to do but no longer sponsor. This is the reason why.
