Westlake Woman Accused of Burning Baby

A 2 year old child was taken to a local hospital with burns on October 9th. The hospital transferred the child to a Baton Rouge hospital and notified the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. The child's mother said the child had gotten into the tub while she was out of the room. Baton Rouge investigators did not believe her story.

Thirty-two yearn old Melynnie Fondel from Westlake has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile. She was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Facility on November 2nd. Baton rouge detectives said the burns were not consistent with being submerged in hot water. CPSO Detective William Wilcox is the lead investigator.
