As you know, each weekend, on 92-9 The Lake, we feature a different theme. This weekend is no exception and we'll be featuring some of the great million sellers of the past three decades.

Now, in addition to playing the songs, from time to time, we'll drop in a story or a trivia tidbit just to keep it interesting. One of the favorite parts of my job is writing these little tidbits because, knowing unimportant facts about hit records is just one of those things that sticks in my brain.

Now, this weekend, we have stories about several of the songs, but I thought as an added bonus, I'd share one of my left-over stories with you right here.

Ready? Here we go...

It's the story of two songwriters who were playing in your average rock band in Australia. Now, these two guys got tired of playing other peoples music and decided that they would write some original songs for their band.

While the two songwriters felt that they really had something, the other members of the band hated their songs so much that they actually kicked them out of the band. The two poor guys went out on their own and decided to just carry on as a duo so that they could perform the songs they wrote. Needless to say, it worked.

The two songwriters were Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell...better known as Air Supply.

Here's a really cool acoustic version of Air Supply's first hit.
