Nobody likes the whole 'Spring Forward/Fall Back' time changes. Some people love the 'Fall Back' part because it gives us an extra hour to sleep or whatever. On the down side of that, it gets dark really early.

On the other hand the 'Spring Forward' is a drag because it shortens the weekend by an hour. If you go to church tomorrow, look for a lot of people to be yawning!

At any rate, it's that time again! Why do we do this?

In a roundabout way, Ben Franklin is to blame for this whole mess. Yeah, Ben Franklin who said, 'Early to bed and early to rise' and so on a so forth.

It seems that Franklin was in Paris and, when he arose one morning he realized that the sun had actually risen well before him. Well, we can't have that, so he came up with daylight savings time. That's the short version of the story.

In the 70's we went back to Daylight Saving Time because it was supposed to save energy. Who's energy it was supposed to save isn't clear because, frankly, I have more energy after a good night's sleep. Recent studies, by the way, show that it doesn't save energy at all.

If you want to know more about Daylight Savings Time, here is a detailed account from the History Channel.

There are several bills being introduced to do away with bi-annual bother, but until they pass, set your clock ahead an hour before you turn in tonight.
