Frederico Torres, 41, of Texas City, Texas wasn't about to let a little thing like a Louisiana State Police roadblock slow him down. It seems that, despite the police presence, barricades and officers telling him to stop, Torres just kept going resulting in an accident as well as the injury of a state trooper and a civilian.

It all started Monday around noon on Interstate 210 westbound at the I-10 westbound entrance ramp near Sulphur. State police had establised a road block in that area, no doubt to take care of another accident, when Torres went past the roadblock and ignored the police trying to get him to stop.

In stead of stopping, Torres crashed into the police vehicle and still tried to keep going. In the process, Torres pushed the squad car into Trooper Derek Cormier and another person standing in front of it. Cormier was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.  The other victim was also brought to a local hospital with minor injuries.  Torres was not injured.

Troopers administered a breath test that determined Torres' blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. He was charged with DWI third offense, vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, and disregard of a traffic control. Torres was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
