On Monday, June 13, the intersection of Bank Street and 7th Street was set to close “for no more than 95 working days,” and to be finished just before the start of the 2016-2017 academic school year. The intersection will remain completely closed to thru traffic until the week of August 22, 2016, said a City of Lake Charles press release.

There will be "alternating lane closures” for the intersection until September when the project is set to be completed.

The closure has allowed contractors to remove and replace the intersection as well as 230 linear feet of 7th Street, 62 linear feet of Bank Street to the north of the intersection, and 89 linear feet of Bank Street to the south of the intersection. The project also has included lining 25 feet of the Pithon Coulee Channel, concrete sidewalk and step modifications.

Though traffic control is in place to ensure driver safety, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, and expect delays until the work is completed.
