This low is not the real story. The real story is that it just popped up in the Gulf. Sure it is late in the season; but this proves it is not time to let our guard down.
I woke up this morning and opened all the windows in the house. It was a very comfortable 66 degrees. It looks like we have some nice fall weather for our Sunday and the first part of next week.
This is the most tropical activity we have seen so far this year. To this point mother nature has spared us ... unless you have vacationed in Cancun at the wrong time this year.
We wake up on a Saturday Morning to a tropical weather map dotted with four areas of disturbed weather. One of them looks like it develop further in the next week.
The first of these tropical waves is out in the Atlantic (about 450 miles east of the Lesser Antilles). The other one is just moving off the coast of Africa..
The Southern Bay of Campeche is looking anything but "peachy" this morning. A low pressure system coming off the Yucatan Peninsula could develop. It is certainly that time of year.
The disturbance that we watched cross the Yucatan Peninsula earlier this week has dissipated. Advisories have been discontinued. Tropical Storm Erin is expected to do the same in the middle of the Atlantic;but Mother Nature is brewing another.
The storms that blew through last night did some damage to homes, cars, trees and power lines. Our hearts go out to those affected. The storms also created some incredible cloud formations and people posted pictures to facebook. We thought we would share some of those.
Jean Lafitte and his buccaneers will be fighting a strong north wind as they sail up the river tomorrow to take over our city. Something tells me they'll make it, take over and two weeks of merriment will begin.
It was about ten years ago. I was riding the Metro in Houston on my way to my daily radiation treatment at MD Anderson. I chose to take my treatments early in the morning so I would not have to dread them all day. I saw people hustling to work and though "I wish I was going to work today." I think about that when I get up and don't feel like going to work.
