Rita

Everyone in SWLA remembers where they were 10 years ago today.  Whether you were on the road, far from home or trying to hold down your piece of SWLA, we all know what we were doing on September 24, 2005...the day Rita rolled into our homes and lives and changed them forever...

Watching the video above will really take you back -- you can see some of the direct damage Hurricane Rita left behind, still fresh on the ground in 2005.

I spent the night in a building in downtown Sulphur. One of the things that I remember most were the sounds of Rita. I went jogging the night before the storm and it was eerily quiet. No traffic noise from the interstate, no rumblings from the plants and no birds or insects...

September 22, 2005, was probably one of the worst days of my life. September 22 was the day we were forced to run from Hurricane Rita.

Hurricanes are notorious for changing directions and taking weird paths, but Tropical Storm Ida just seems to be going in circles out there in the Atlantic.

It is an experience I will never forget. We were told by corporate to abandon the studios and get out of harms way. We ignored that advise and broadcast through the approximate 12 hours of 120 mile per hour winds of Hurricane Rita.

Eight years ago...what were you doing?  Packing your car?  Boarding the windows?  Buying water & batteries?  Sitting in the I-10 parking lot?  Every resident of SWLA has their own story, anecdote, advice, memory.  I found this video a couple of years ago and just loved how it showed the complete storm...approach, evacuation, destruction, and recovery.  What are your Rita memories?
