Imagine you are asleep in your mobile home when you notice it is moving. You open your door to see your mobile home has been turned into a house boat! Something very similar happened in Cameron Parish early last Sunday Morning.
Flood conditions are getting worse for Jeff Davis and Acadia parish residents along the Mermentau River. In Lake Arthur, the levees were topped over the weekend, making many road impassable. Because of that, a curfew for residents is still in place.
Flood conditions have led to a second day off of school for Jeff Davis Parish students on Friday, Jan. 11, and along the eastern edge of the parish, flood conditions may necessitate evacuations along the Mermentau River.
We are already over our average rainfall totals for the month of January. It looks like we have more rain coming tomorrow and Wednesday and that will not help. A flood warning was issued yesterday and it looks like more could be coming.
