To many Americans, the Super Bowl is practically a national holiday.  In fact, a record 173 million people are expected to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday this year, shelling out an estimated $11 billion on food, booze and other game day essentials.  And just like Thanksgiving has turkey and Christmas has eggnog, the Super Bowl comes with its own traditional foods.  Pizza is a popular choice- Pizza Hut and Domino’s are both expecting to see sales in the millions of pies.  If chips and other crunchy snacks are your “bag,” you’re not alone- nearly 200 million pounds of chips, pretzels and popcorn are sold prior to the Super Bowl, including more than 40 million pounds of potato chips.  And who could forget the chicken wings- more than 1.25 billion wings (or 100 million pounds’ worth) will be eaten this Sunday.  All of this game day gluttony ads up to an average of 1,200 calories and 50 grams of fat per viewer.  And to top it all off, there's the game!!

I wonder how many will call in sick on Monday.
