The downtown section of Ryan street has come to life over the last few years. More businesses have moved in and there pedestrian activity like the area has not seen in years. Restaurants and bars have joined the shops and made the area an entertainment hub for day time and evening hours. Now the entertainment moves to the street corners.

One of the most enduring features of the French Quarter in New Orleans is the street performers. They give the area a very unique feel and add to the ambiance of a city where walking around is fun. This draws more people in and creates traffic for businesses that line these streets. Lake Charles can now look for some of the same kind of atmosphere.

The areas where these musicians can perform are designated in a new Lake Charles city ordinance and all musicians must buy an annual permit at the cost of $25. According to a KPLC story the intersections of Ryan Street at Division, Broad, Pujo, and Kirby. In addition to the Ryan Street locations, other designated performance areas include four places along the Lakefront Promenade.
