The threat of severe weather and flooding is certainly not something to be taken lightly. However, there are times when you've done what you can do and you just have to wait for Mother Nature to do what she is going to do. It's not a battle you can win so in order to survive you sometimes have to make the best of it.

When it comes to bad weather one of our favorite pastimes in South Louisiana is to imbibe with a cocktail or two. If you don't count beer then the Hurricane would probably be at the top of the weather related drinks you might choose.

If you're thinking tropical but you still want to pay homage to egregious behavior of Mother Nature you could mix up a Dark 'n' Stormy. It's a category 5 conscious kicker that features a nice blend of dark rum and ginger beer.

If you're looking to get lost in the storm for more than a three-hour tour you might want to mix up a Gilligan. This little buddy is a rum based fruity cocktail that will have you ready to take a nap in the top hammock until the storm has passed.

There is actually a cocktail called Damn The Weather. My guess is it was created by someone whose plans were totally trashed by an onslaught of storms. This cocktail features gin, vermouth, triple sec, and orange juice.

Since we might need to keep our wits about us during this weekend how about we do this. We'll save these drink ideas for Labor Day Weekend when Hurricane Harvey is long gone and we're helping our neighbors, both near and far, get back on their feet.
