Ah yes, it's time once again for us all to pay our dues for the right to live here in Louisiana. If you haven't filed your state tax return, the deadline is midnight to night. I guess the old image of a person burning the midnight oil with an adding machine and a hurried trip to the post office to beat that midnight dead is far from true, but you may find yourself working over a hot computer the same way. Luckily, we have a lot of great computer programs that make doing our taxes even easier.

By the by, if you are doing your taxes today and you owe the state any money, that amount has to be sent in with your completed return. The state is pretty strict abut such things. On average, the fee for not filing on time or for late payments is running about 5% per month. Not a lot of money, but you certainly don't want to get stuck with any kind of penalty. Now, that figure of 5% is only standard. that number can rise as high as 25% and nobody wants to pay that.

You can find all the information you need as well as all the forms required at the Louisiana Department of Revenue
