From Friday, October 21st to Saturday, October 22nd, at the Lake Charles Civic Center, the first annual Culture Fest Louisiana will celebrate the diversity of Southwest Louisiana with food, music, fashion, art, and performances that span across the many cultures and ethnicities found in our region. In partnership with the City of Lake Charles and several civic organizations, schools, and local universities, Common Ground, a group of diverse locals, initiated Culture Fest Louisiana as a way to educate and enlighten the public about global cultures through a festival atmosphere.

The festival will include a variety of events for all ages and backgrounds, including a cultural display area, an international village for children, a world café, and a wide schedule of live entertainment. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Culture Fest Louisiana stage will feature Native American flute music by Peter Villegas, Celtic songs, and the Grammy-nominated Cajun band the Lost Bayou Ramblers. An extensive tasting of wines and beers from across the world will be presented as well. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. will include an exciting variety of music, dancing, art, and cuisine in addition to a special performance of “Hands on with Zig” by Zig Wajler.

Common Ground is also hosting Diversity Week which is a full week of culturally diverse events throughout the area that precedes the festival. Culture Fest Louisiana is a free community event that is designed to encourage family participation from across Southwest Louisiana and to promote cultural harmony based on mutual understanding and respect. By embracing diversity, Southwest Louisiana will become a more vibrant and exciting community that can further attract new families, businesses, and industries to the area while promoting tourism and economic development.
