I can remember in years past having dolphins swimming in Contraband Bayou. This is the time of year when the salinity level in Lake Charles (and connected waterways) rises. With the salty water come salt water fish. It is great for fisherman; but was not so good for a kid swimming in Lake Pontchartrain.

According to the story by WWL .. a 7 year old Trent Trentacosta (from New Orleans) was swimming and sailing in the lake with his family this past Friday when the bite took place. Doctors and shark experts concurred that the bite was probably from a shark. The boy is expected to make a full recovery. A UNO shark expert says that at certain times of the year there are sharks in Lake Pontchatrain.
