New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton shut down the rumor mill this afternoon in his season-ending press conference.

"I'll be here as long as they'll have me," he said.

That puts an end to talk -- at least for now -- that Payton will jump ship for another NFL team. The Saints are the only team where Payton has served as a head coach. The Super Bowl-winning coach appeared with Saints' owners Tom and Gayle Benson in an effort to put the issue to bed.

"This is where I plan on coaching.  And I don't envision myself coaching for any other club," said Payton. The coach went so far as to say he plans on finishing his career with the Saints.

That news gets added to quarterback Drew Brees' assertion earlier this week that he aslso plans to retire with the Saints if he's allowed to. He still has one more year on his contract, and said he'd be open to an extension. No one knows how that will play out, as the aging -- though still record-breaking -- quarterback has been injury-prone. Brees is also the ninth highest-paid quarterback in the league, and his salary could become a dicey issue for the Saints.

For now, though, the Brees-Payton era of Saints football looks set to continue for at least one more year. Payton worked to make his intentions clear.

"Leave early a hero, stay late and become a villain. And if I have to someday become that villain, then I plan on staying until everyone says, 'We're burning your wagon out of town.' And I'm comfortable with that. -- Sean Payton, NFL.com
