Richie was the very first performer at the original Woodstock festival in 1969.  He also performed at Woodstock's 40th anniversary in 2009.  He retired from touring in March of last year, after 45 years on the road.

On Woodstock, Richie once said, quote, "I felt like, 'They're gonna kill me if I go up on stage first.  Give me break.'  But the people were great.  I was supposed to sing 40 minutes, which I did, and from the side of the stage they go, 'Richie, four more songs?'
