A reminder that the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a combination checkpoint tonight, Wednesday, November 23. Deputies will be out at an undisclosed location looking for persons who may be driving under the influence as well as individuals not wearing their seat belt.

Tonight's checkpoint as well as a second checkpoint on Saturday, November 26, will target persons driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. These checkpoints have in the past "proven effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired, and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted,” said  CPSO press release.

People who are not wearing their seatbelt are also the target of the latest checkpoints funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
